Who is Pussy Riot co-founder Nadya Tolokonnikova?
Nadya Tolokonnikova is the co-founder of the Russian punk band, Pussy Riot. A performance artist, feminist, and political activist, Nadya has been at the forefront of Web3 activism. Early last year, she, along with other artists and developers, launched UnicornDAO, a cryptocurrency investment fund.
Essentially, the collective supports female-identifying, non-binary, and LGBTQ+ artists. So far, it has raised $4.5 million to make the Web3 space more inclusive and diverse.
“UnicornDAO was founded on the mission to redistribute wealth and visibility in order to create equality for women-identified and LGBTQ+ people,” Nadya told at the time.
Besides, UnicornDAO also set up the LegalAbortion.eth wallet for people to safely and securely send donations to women’s reproductive rights organizations. The move came in the aftermath of the Roe vs Wade ruling. At the time, Pussy Riot also dropped the Proof of Protest NFT collection. Featuring “bottles of feminism”, it was a strong piece of protest against the US Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned the landmark 1973 Roe vs Wade case.
Now, with the Matriarchy Now NFT collection with Rolling Stone, Pussy Riot’s Nadya is cementing herself in the Web3 philanthropy space.
