Grimes, musician and ex-partner of billionaire Elon Musk, has disapproved Meta’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of the future of the metaverse. She said that “if he oversees the metaverse, it is dead.” This Tweet came after The Independent made a Tweet saying that he does, in fact, oversee the Metaverse.
Grimes’ Comments
Claire Elise Boucher, or Grimes, as she’s known professionally recently took to Twitter to disapprove of the concept of Meta’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg overseeing the future of the metaverse.
She spoke about it to her 1.3 million followers. “If Zuck “oversees the Metaverse” it is dead and people who care about art and culture are building something else. Also, this is bad art. The quality of this image alone speaks to how wildly underqualified he is to build alternate reality, literally every indie game looks better.”
She added: “they have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt they are not ethically capable of running smthn (something) so powerful. And shud (should) not have the power they have now”, assumably in reference to the scandals that Facebook/Meta have been involved in throughout the years.
This Tweet came in response to The Independent’s announcement that Zuckerberg would feature on one of the top, yet most controversial podcasts, hosted by Joe Rogan, the UFC commentator and podcaster.
About Grimes
Grimes is a Canadian musician, singer and songwriter. Her work has been described in many ways, mainly lofi-R&B and pop. Her lyrics often touch on science fiction and feminist themes. She has released five studio albums since starting her career in 2007.
Boucher was in a relationship with Tesla and SpaceX founder, Elon Musk between 2018 and this year. She had 2 children with him called X Æ A-Xii and Exa Dark Sideræl. The pair split up a few times throughout their relationship but officially called it quits in March of 2022.
Despite her comments on Zuckerberg, Grimes has actually proven to be a fan of crypto and NFTs in general. In March 2021, she sold her own NFT art and music in a collection titled ‘WarNymph’. Her platform of choice was on Nifty Gateway, and it was sold for a total of $6 million. At that time, she described herself as a “crypto queen”.
Does ‘Zuck’ oversee the Metaverse?
Frankly, the answer is no. Meta’s version of the metaverse isn’t fully out yet. Already, there are huge companies in the metaverse space with lots of daily users on their platforms. Like Decentraland and The Sandbox, who are the top names in the industry.
Of course, with the huge multi-billion dollar brand that Meta, formerly Facebook, have, it is a possibility that upon full release they will have the top platform.
